Actually a Chinese cabbage with pale, tightly wrapped and crinkly leaves with a delicate, slightly sweet flavour. Chinese leaves can be used raw in salad dishes or cooked in stir-fry dishes or soup. Because of its mild flavour it is also sometimes served as a vegetable side dish. In Filipino cuisine it is used in Nilagang Baboy or Bulalo dishes.
It is also used in Thai or Vietnamese recipes.
